In 2013, the creation of Oceanshutter.com began with hopes to share the beauty of the underwater world with everyone. The earth is mostly covered in water, and it is our pleasure to share our adventures in the depths of the sea with you. Oceanshutter.com is owned and operated by Dustin and Tyra Adamson.
In 2002, Dustin and Tyra created the ultimate buddy team by being married in July, in Bountiful, Utah. Being in the middle of a desert, Utah isn't known to be an underwater mecca. However, Dustin and Tyra found a love of the ocean from their many travels abroad. They try to get out of the country 2-3 times a year to experience the magic that the ocean has to offer. Their journeys have taken them all over the world, with many more places to visit. Some of the destinations where they have travelled includes: Cozumel, Mexico, St Lucia, All the Cayman Islands, Roatan Honduras, Bonaire, Florida Keys, Crystal River Florida, Puerto Rico, Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii, Fiji, Australia, Palau, Lembeh Strait Indonesia, Komodo Indonesia, Anilao Philippines, Dumaguete Philippines, the Red Sea in Egypt, Galapagos Islands, Revillagidedo Islands, Milne Bay Papua New Guinea, Truk Lagoon, Bali Indonesia, Solomon Islands, Tiger Beach Bahamas, and Bimini Bahamas.
Having lived in Utah her whole life, Tyra began scuba diving in 1998. Because she swam competitively on the High School swim team, as well as being a lifeguard, going underwater just seemed natural for her. At one point Tyra was majoring in photography in college, but soon switched to computer science. In 2006 she decided to take her love of photography underwater. With a trip to Palau in Sept. 2006, she got her first experience with using a camera underwater. She has been shooting away ever since. Despite her propensity for sea sickness, Tyra’s love of the water keeps her going strong, always searching for the perfect shot. Starting with a Canon 10D in an Ikelite housing, she has since graduated to using a full frame Canon 5D Mark II. Her lens of choice are the 100mm Macro, 8-15mm fisheye, 15mm fisheye, and the 17-40mm wide angle lens. She also employs the use of Ikelite Strobes, Sola Focus lights, and Macromate wet diopter. Tyra's work has been published in Alert Diver, ScubaDiver Australasia, as well as some local newspapers.
Also having lived in Utah his entire life, at the age of 17, Dustin had the opportunity to go to Australia with a good friend of his. It was this trip that gave him the motivation to get certified as a scuba diver. Up until 2011, Dustin served as Tyra’s main critter spotter. But after Tyra had an unfortunate housing flood in the Philippines, the camera/housing insurance kicked in, and they suddenly had an extra housing Dustin could use for video. Because he didn't need the housing electronics Tyra needed, this was a blessing in disguise. It started Dustin down a boarder-line obsession for underwater video. He is currently shooting with a full frame Canon 1DX Mark II and a Nauticam housing. For lighting, he uses 2 Sola 8000’s and a Sola 2000/2100/2500. He also uses the Xit404 tripod with twist clamp legs. Lenses include 8-15mm fisheye, 16-35mm F4L wide angle, and the 100mm macro lens. All equipment is purchased through www.backscatter.com.
Dustin's Films have received some notable attention from worldwide organizations, including: Alert Diver Magazine, The Biowall, Scuba Diver Life, Huffington Post, Smithsonian Channel and the Underwater Photography Guide. In 2015, Dustin had the privilege of being invited to be a member of the prestigious Ocean Artist Society.
